NTS X-Wind - Kite Wind Farm Crowdfunding Campaign

X wind energy is a promising cost-efficient wind turbine for the generation of renewable electricity. It is based on various technologies such as fully automatically controlled kites, rail systems and generators.

So far, the technology has been tested on a straight track. Now funds are needed to prove the fully automatic controllability of energy kites from all wind directions (X wind phase, headwind phase and tailwind phase)

The funds raised are used to develop the continuous movement in a circuit. In the first step, the track is leveled in order to test the controller for the automatic control of an energy kite in a circle on a Unimog. After that, a rail is to be laid on this circuit, on which bogies are pulled by the energy kites to generate electricity. The preparation of the test track costs about 30,000 €.

What are the advantages compared to conventional wind turbines?

The wind speed and frequency increases disproportionately with altitude. And - if the wind speed doubles, the energy increases eightfold (3rd potency). NTS is developing a patented X-wind turbine to take advantage of these strong and stable winds at altitudes of up to 500m. Therefore, studies show 2-3 times higher availability of these turbines compared to conventional wind turbines and lower production costs than fossil fuels.

Automatically controlled kites first pull ground vehicles back and forth on a straight similar to kitesurfers driving on the sea. This kinetic energy is converted into electricity in the X wind turbines. Unfortunately, there are also lulls at higher altitudes (<4% of the year). Whenever the patented approach of NTS's X-Wind technology comes into play. We can run (drive) like a child with the kite and in this way keep the kite in the air even if there is too little wind.
